DISABLED WOMAN ATTACKED BY ULTRA-ORTHODOX CROWD FOR "TRAVELING" ON THE SABBATH
IN AN ELECTRIC POWERED WHEELCHAIR

A disabled woman who lives adjacent to an Ultra-Orthodox neighborhood in Jerusalem has submitted a complaint to the police that she was verbally vilified and physically attacked by an Ultra-Orthodox crowd on the grounds that she was violating the Sabbath by "traveling" in her electric powered wheel chair from her apartment to visit friends nearby. The woman reported to the police that her Ultra-Orthodox neighbors had attacked her on more than one occasion. The police who said they have investigated the complaint have not taken any action. The Jerusalem Social Welfare Department is trying to arrange for the women to move to a secular neighborhood.
